If you are looking at halogen or metal halide, it is non directional, meaning that you have light spilled and therefore 50 to 70% of light is wasted, shining 360 degrees whereas your LED is directed light.

We stock a Luceco, British General 50W Flood Light with 3000 Lumen with a Beam angle of 95 degrees. Its IP65, meaning it is really good at withstanding rain. It turns on straight away - no waiting for it to heat up like metal halide.

So how far will it light up? The light spreads. We drive, we cook, we heat, we turn on the lights, we don't plug out, we turn on multiple appliances, we fly. Everyday stuff - no worries. Consume on! But every action has a reaction. So I have decided to take some responsibility and become more energy aware. One thing I looked at was lighting.

15 - 20% of the world's energy consumption goes on lighting creating 1.9 billion tonnes of CO2 annually. If we all changed to LED lighting this could be reduced by an estimated 50-70%**.
LEDs convert up to 80% of energy into light. This both reduces electricity costs and dramatically reduces carbon emissions.

Take a look at a 5W LED GU10 bulb typically found in your kitchen. In comparison to a 50W equivalent there is a saving of 21kg Co2 output per 1000 hours usage*. I changed 15 in the kitchen. We light those for easily 5 hours a day, year round. Every 10 days means there are 21kg less emissions - just from my little kitchen lights. On a 10W LED bulb which is equivalent to a 60W halogen there is a Co2 output difference of 23kg per 1000 hours*.

LEDs also have longer life - meaning less going to landfill. For one LED bulb you will replace 5 CFLs or 30 incandescents. Because there is no heat emitted - you can also save on air conditioning.

Its a small change - don't stop there.

Check out our online store www.farmlighting.ie for our range

*Ref Luceco Website
** GE Lighting

Replacing Fluorescent Tubes with LED Tubes

https://www.farmlighting.ie/blog/replacing-fluorescent-tubes-with-led-tubes

https://www.farmlighting.ie/blog/replacing-fluorescent-tubes-with-led-tubes#comments

Uncategorized

A business really can save on electricity bills by changing out old fluorescent tubes to LED. Less than half the energy means less than half the running costs. That means a considerable reduction in carbon output too.

Example: replacing 60 fluorescent tubes running 9 hours a day with LED would see a return on investment at the beginning of year two, yielding a saving of over €4200 at the end of 5 years. This does not include the cost of getting maintenance to come and change each fluorescent at different time intervals possibly and probably twice over the period.

On the other hand LED goes on, no flickering and no light fade with an estimated life of 50000 hours versus 10000 for the fluorescent tube. There should be no more standing at the door, waiting for the lights. With LED it is instant on.

Look also at halogen spotlights - 20 x 35w halogen spots, common in a kitchen, will have an annual electricity cost of €264 while 5 W LEDs will cost €37.80 - giving better light and emitting less carbon dioxide. This is based on 7 hours over 300 days.

It makes sense.

New Regulations For Farm Machinery

https://www.farmlighting.ie/blog/new-regulations-for-farm-machinery

https://www.farmlighting.ie/blog/new-regulations-for-farm-machinery#comments

Uncategorized

New Year, New Regulations - it makes sense.
